Transparent and flexible ruler

This transparent, thin and flexible plastic ruler offers added convenience when measuring overjet and overbite. It's easy to see through, allowing for accurate measurements. This is especially important when measuring overbite, as the pencil line drawn on the teeth is clearly visible when held in front of the ruler. Because the ruler is 15 centimeters long, it can be held at the bottom while the top is bent and pressed against the teeth during measurement.

The ruler is lightweight. After use, it can be cleaned with alcohol or dish soap (not dishwasher safe). The ruler can be ordered individually or per 4 pieces, with a total discount of € 1.50. Extra pieces are handy because a different, clean ruler can be used for each subsequent client. In that case cleaning doesn't have to be done immediately; it can be done later, all at once. With intensive use, wear and tear may/will occur over time.

There are various tools available for measuring overjet and overbite, depending on the measurement. 

• To measure an overjet (also called: sagittal or horizontal overbite), a ruler, a periodontal probe and the overjet-measurer can be used.

• To measure an overbite (also: vertical overbite), a ruler or a periodontal probe can be used. This can be a negative overbite (which measures the space between the lower and upper incisors at rest; also called open bite) and a positive overbite (which measures the extent to which the upper incisors are placed over the lower incisors at rest). The positive overbite can be measured by first making a horizontal line with a pencil, directly below the incisal edge of the upper central incisors (this line will then appear on the labial side of the lower central incisors). Then measure the distance from the incisal edge of the lower central incisors to the set mark.

• Measuring an overjet in combination with an open bite (a negative overbite) is only possible with an overjet- measurer.
